Orthotics are a custom-made brace or support for the arch of the foot or the ankle. There are a number of methods to capture the shape of the foot or ankle, including digital scanning, using casting material or taking a foam impression. Once either the scan, impression or cast has been made it is sent to a lab which fabricates the orthotic in the shape of the patient’s foot. Orthotics are sometimes covered by a patient’s insurance and we can check this coverage for you prior to initiation of the process. Ankle and foot orthotics can treat many different conditions. Some of the more common conditions treated are

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Flatfeet
  • Arthritis
  • Tendinitis
  • Offloading of a callus or recurrent ulceration

While there are some over-the-counter arch supports that are of good quality. It is highly recommended that if you have unexplained pain in your feet that you seek consultation with a licensed podiatrist for an accurate diagnosis and treatment recommendation. Your podiatrist can recommend a quality over-the-counter support at an affordable price, and if needed discuss the benefits of custom orthotics.
